"Understanding what makes a strong GCSE Music composition is crucial in preparing students for success. This workshop, led by an experienced GCSE Music moderator, will explore real GCSE compositions to identify essential musical skills and common pitfalls.

By working backwards from the finished pieces, we will uncover the key compositional building blocks that can be introduced at KS3 to support students in developing creative and extended compositions at KS4.

Helen Temple

Helen is a pianist and singer who graduated from the University of Exeter in 1994 with a BMUS hons degree and then went on to complete a PGCE in Secondary music teaching at the University of Reading in 1995.

Helen has spent much of her career as a classroom music teacher, working in Secondary, Primary and Special school settings and was a Head of Music before starting in her current role as Area Leader of Music Development with the Derby & Derbyshire Music Partnership in 2017.

Helen also has over 20 years’ experience as a GCSE Music moderator for OCR.
